“Don't believe all the fake 5-star reviews, they're probably all friends and family. Notice the lack of details in most of them. Don't waste your time and money hiring this guy. All he did was make a mess of my parking lot, and then blame me for asking for said mess.
I clearly pointed out the section of half-inch-thick asphalt patching that needed removing. After the first day of work, I wondered why two-thirds of the material in question was still there. He told me he was planning on leaving that half-inch-thick crumbling material, and crack-filling and sealcoating over it. This was material that could be lifted off the underlying layer BY HAND.
Once we seemed to be on the same page about removing this shoddy prior patch-work, Christopher somehow interpreted that to mean I wanted ALL of the asphalt in that area removed.
Pickaxe, jackhammer, and who knows what else were used to try to remove perfectly solid asphalt that didn't need to be touched. Then, after I asked why he was removing good material, he said he would have to charge me more than the agreed on price in our contract, because “this is a lot of work.” All because he created more work for himself, work that was never within the scope of our contract. It was then that I asked him to stop what he was doing, and focus on sealcoating and striping, and I would deal with the mess later on my own. Christopher refused to do so without me signing another contract, so I asked him to gather his things and leave my property.
It should have been a red flag when he dropped off equipment using a Uhaul van. The jackhammer I mentioned above was brought on site in the backseat of his car. Not typical things that a real professional would do.
After filling cracks, Christopher then, without permission, stored his hot tar kettle machine on my painted concrete parking area, leaving a mess of rubbery crack sealing material that now needs to be scraped off and painted over. He also left an old tarp on site after retrieving his equipment.
I suppose I should be grateful I asked him to leave the premises when I did. Sure, I lost the 40% deposit I paid him, but losing 40% is better than the 100% (or more) I would have had to pay if I allowed him to continue.
