“Retiring from a 50-year career in IT, I decided our backyard needed a makeover. We wanted something we would enjoy every day and would be great for entertaining family and friends. I had a vision in my head that included a pergola and a water feature. I only needed to find a landscape architect who could make it happen. Luckily, I found Javier and his son Jai at @jponceandson. Javier listened and provided me with a draft plan that was exactly what I saw in my head. The plan started with nuking the backyard and moving the fence line out 10 feet. Custom electrical work would bring power to the pellet grill, fountain, and lighting. Javier's suggestions for low maintenance/water plants included a beautiful dynamite red crepe myrtle. Stones filled the plant beds and a small deck ringed the fountain behind which was placed a trellis with star jasmine vines. The patio is concrete pads and stones ringed by beautiful deep pile astroturf. Everything was designed for maximum beauty and minimal upkeep. The pergola was designed to create shade without totally blocking light. The ceiling fan is a must in Texas. The lighting is Philips Hue which enables every color possible based on mood or occasion. The project took several weeks as each phase was completed. We made modifications as we went along that improved the initial design. The final touch will be outdoor furniture which arrives next week. We are blown away by the quality work done by Javier and his team. He was on top of the project every step of the way. I am so grateful that our creative minds connected so well. Going forward, his team will handle all yard maintenance and train the plants as they grow. Since completion, we sit outside every night and enjoy the cool breeze created by the fan and the trickle of water running down the waterfall fountain.
